Debby Insured Losses Near $125M
Fla.’s OIR: As of last week, 20,715 claims have been filed; 6,491 claims have been closed with payments made and 7,328 closed without payments.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Estimated insured losses from Hurricane Debby continue to slowly increase and totaled $124.8 million as of Friday, according to data posted on the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation website.
The estimate was up from $121.5 million a week earlier. Debby made landfall Aug. 5 as a Category 1 hurricane near Steinhatchee in Taylor County, before moving across rural North Florida. It had moved up the Gulf of Mexico, causing damage in some coastal communities.
The new data showed that 20,715 claims had been filed, with 13,413 involving residential property and other claims involving such things as damage to autos and commercial property. As of Friday, 6,491 claims had been closed with payments made to policyholders, while 7,328 claims had been closed without payments.
