State to Host Disaster Recovery Workshops

FloridaCommerce will host community workshops for residents and stakeholders to hear from Floridians about unmet needs after the 2023-2024 storms.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— FloridaCommerce announced it will host a series of community workshops to hear directly from Floridians about their unmet disaster recovery needs following the storms of 2023 and 2024.

These workshops will provide an overview of the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program and the upcoming State of Florida Action Plan, which will outline a high-level strategy for allocating funds to address long-term, unmet recovery needs in the affected communities.

On January 16, 2025, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced Florida will receive more than $925 million in CDBG-DR funding. This funding will support long-term resiliency and mitigation efforts in response to the 2023 and 2024 storms across Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Brevard, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Glades, Gulf, Hamilton, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Indian River, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Marion, Martin, Nassau, Okeechobee, Osceola, Palm Beach, Polk, Putnam, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Union, and Wakulla counties.

Additionally, HUD has designated eleven entitlement communities — Broward, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Orange, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, and Volusia counties, as well as the cities of Fort Lauderdale and St. Petersburg — to receive direct funding allocations separate from the state’s allotment. These communities will be responsible for designing and administering their own programs to address local unmet needs.
