Marketing Ideas for Introverts
Some of the leading real estate agents are introverts. Key strategies for introverted agents include building deep relationships and leveraging social media.
NEW YORK – Believe it or not, some of the top real estate agents in the country are actually introverts. I’ve personally been coaching and training introverted agents since 2018 and have realized that while there are hundreds of different ways to find clients, there do seem to be some strategies that are more popular than others. If you’re looking for a new lead generation idea to add to your marketing plan this year (or you’re new to real estate and just getting started), check out my top three suggestions:
#1: Build deep relationships
This includes both growing deeper in your existing relationships with your sphere (friends, family, neighbors, past clients) and meeting new people to add to your sphere. Don’t worry; meeting new people doesn’t have to be scary! If you focus on meeting one new person at a time, you will increase your sphere steadily. For us introverts, building relationships comes very naturally, so it makes sense to lean into this strategy.
Think quality over quantity. It’s better to have a few dozen raving fans who send you consistent referrals and repeat business than a database of a thousand strangers who may or may not remember your name.
To accomplish this, you’ll need to stay in touch with them regularly, so when they do have a real estate need or a referral, they think of you! I’d recommend a combination of emails, texts, in-person meetings, client events, social media engagement, and snail mail to stay top of mind.
#2: Lean into social media—your way
Many agents I talk to want to avoid social media altogether, but there are so many ways to use it and make it work for you. I always recommend at least exploring the options.
Think about which platform best suits your brand and personality. Love writing? Consider LinkedIn. Want to create educational videos or conduct interviews with local business owners? YouTube would be a great fit. Prefer photos and short videos about your day to day life? IG for the win.
In terms of what to post, start with what’s comfortable for you— what you can commit to doing consistently. For me, I can commit to a weekly recap post on Facebook and Instagram – it includes one photo of either me or my cat, plus a list of the previous week’s highlights, both personal and professional. That’s it. And it works for me. Find what works for you!
#3: Create a direct mail campaign
One of the best marketing strategies for introverts is using direct mail. No outgoing calls needed, just incoming inquiries from interested parties who actually want to talk to you about real estate.
Direct mail takes many forms: farming a geographic area with postcards, sending letters to expired listings, handwritten notes to your sphere, delighting your past clients with home anniversary cards, to name a few.
Yes, introverts are well-suited to be incredible real estate agents. Tailor your lead generation strategies to what you enjoy, what you’re good at, and who you are at your core. Remember to rest and recharge your energy along the way, and you’ll build a wonderful career for yourself that’s sustainable and fun!
