Florida Ranked Best State for Retirement
Gov. Ron DeSantis praised the state’s strong economy and low taxes for creating a retirement-friendly atmosphere.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida ranked as the number one state to retire thanks to its relatively low taxes, miles of shoreline and plenty of adult volunteer opportunities, the financial advice website WalletHub said.
The survey, which compared the 50 states, gave the Sunshine State high marks in affordability (4) and quality of life (1), while healthcare (29) took a lower ranking. WalletHub noted, “the overall cost of living is pretty high in Florida compared to other states, but that doesn’t stop the Sunshine State from taking the top spot for retirees.”
“There are plenty of ways for seniors to stay healthy and happy, which is reflected in the fact that Florida has one of the lowest death rates for people aged 65 and older in the country,” WalletHub said.
The ranking drew praise from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who noted the state outpaced New York, California, Georgia and Texas in individual key indicators.
“Florida’s strong economy and low taxes create opportunities for families, which is why Florida continues to lead the nation in net in-migration,” DeSantis said. “We are proud to be the top destination for retirement.”
For the survey, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 46 key indicators of retirement-friendliness, from financial factors like tax rates and the cost of living to things like access to quality medical care and fun activities.
