Marketing Lessons We Learned from Barbie
The Barbie movie – or at least its advertising people – had an expert marketing strategy that can apply to real estate, with timing key to its success.
LOS ANGELES – The Barbie movie promotion this spring and summer points to expert marketing that real estate professionals can learn from.
Timing was a key component as marketing of the movie started in early 2022. There also was meticulous placement of branding very early on. This suggests agents should also conduct event planning as early as possible – a maximum amount of time to build excitement and awareness with the audience.
The Barbie movie marketing also focused on color, leveraging pink in various ways since pink is Barbie’s signature color.
Agents should strive to make their digital and physical assets memorable too, and while their colors may not have the impact of virtually everything Barbie owns, they can invest in professional guidance to help them consistently stand out with consumers.
Barbie marketing also touched multiple bases. Through the use of storytelling, its marketing team highlighted both its lighter side and more serious elements. Similarly, agents can focus on their personal story by identifying three core messages they want audiences to know about their brand, and incorporate those messages across all marketing efforts.
Furthermore, the movie featured robust messaging by using the catchphrase “Hi Barbie” repeatedly. Agents can similarly use taglines and slogans consistently and intentionally, helping the agent’s brand be more memorable because consumers encounter it over and over.
The movie featured more than 100 authorized campaigns, reflecting the power of building relationships, which agents can do by collaborating with others to spread a common message.
And, as it was with Barbie, marketing shouldn’t be invasive or distasteful, but rather fun, heartfelt and on point. Agents’ brand is essential to how consumers connect with agents. It should be curated and easy to understand.
