Spring Trends Designers Are Loving

Some 2025 design trends include lighting as functional art, wallpapered or skirted ceilings, buttery yellows, hand-drawn florals and bold color pops.

NEW YORK — Some of the 2025 design trends include lighting that doubles as functional artwork, drawing the attention of people to certain aspects of the room, such as an asymmetrical sconce.

Wallpapered ceilings are trending, replacing the statement wall. Rather than paint one accent wall, people are painting or wallpapering their ceilings, and they work best when the ceiling is outlined by a clear area, such as a tray or coffered ceiling. Wallpapers of choice are often bold and unique.

Skirted ceilings are another trend, allowing trendy colors to bleed off the ceiling onto the walls and stopping at a piece of trim. For older homes, this effect can make shorter ceilings look taller, but in modern homes, it can provide a funkier look to a room.

Warm, soft, and buttery yellows are trendy because the color is joyful, according to experts, and this can be showcased in home accessories, artwork, or textiles. Hand-drawn florals are in as well, with some people gravitating toward delicate botanical wallpapers in half baths or powder rooms or bold floral patterns in the fabric of their chairs.

Bold pops of bright colors are also making their way into rooms either as paint or tile colors, but even a set of brightly colored hand towels can be added.
