Fair Housing Month: Equal Housing for All
April is Fair Housing Month, with NAR offering resources for Realtors® and HUD providing tools to help Americans understand housing rights.
WASHINGTON — Since President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Fair Housing Act in 1968, Americans have had legal protections against housing discrimination based on race, color, religion and national origin — safeguards later expanded to include sex, disability and familial status.
With these protections in place, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division can investigate and enforce fair housing laws and prosecute discrimination cases to ensure individuals have equal opportunities in housing.
April is recognized as Fair Housing Month to highlight the important work of protecting the rights of individuals to rent, buy and live in housing free from discrimination, as well as to promote awareness of fair housing laws and enforcement efforts.
To commemorate this significant month, the National Association of Realtors® has assembled a comprehensive toolkit of resources designed for Realtors® to use and share, helping to advance fair housing practices and awareness:
- 2025 Fair Housing Month poster
- Social media graphics
- X posts
- Digital ads
- Email graphics
- Customizable assets
- Fair Housing Month proclamation
- Equal Opportunity in Housing brochure
- Fair Housing activities
In addition, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers resources online to help Americans better understand their rights.
