New Guide: What Buyers Should Know Before Closing

A new NAR Consumer Guide provides customers with info about the steps in the homebuying process, answering questions about escrow, appraisals and more.

ORLANDO, Fla. — For many homebuyers, the steps between a purchase agreement and closing are a mystery. While the process is different in each state, the National Association of Realtors®’ newest Consumer Guide — Steps Between Signing and Closing on a Home — provides the basics of what to expect during the period between signing and closing.

The Consumer Guide is the 15th in NAR’s series to equip customers with the tools they need to make informed choices following the practice changes that began Aug. 17. Some of the questions include:

  • What happens after I sign a purchase agreement?
  • What do I need to do before I can close?
  • What is an appraisal?
  • What happens at close?

Like the other Consumer Guides, the newest one — along with other resources — can be viewed at the NAR website facts.Realtor. The Consumer Guides can also be printed as handouts. Most are available in English and Spanish.
