The Latest Aesthetic: Firewood Storage
In-home firewood displays have become a popular trend and can cost up to $5,000 to create a resort-like feel. The displays provide a natural element in the "modern-farmhouse" style of the 2010s.
NEW YORK – Logs used for firewood are on display near luxury home fireplaces – even gas fireplaces – to provide an authentic look to a cozy space, home designers say.
Built-in firewood storage, also called "wood boxes," are recessed shelves built into fireplaces for wood storage and have become more popular in the last five years as a decorative element.
The displays provide a natural element in the "modern-farmhouse" style of the 2010s. Now homeowners are romanticizing organic materials, according to experts. Many of these wood displays include logs without dirt, fungus or bugs and can cost up to $600 per 1/10th of a cord for cherry wood.
Experts also say these wood boxes should be cleaned annually with water, soap and a cloth. Popular wood to display include birch, pine and poplar. Some homeowners go so far as to cut wood from trees on their own properties. Driftwood is common near the coast. Experts indicate that built-in wood storage near a fireplace can cost up to $5,000 and can provide a resort-like feel.
