2024 Real Estate and Design Trends to Watch
In 2024, buyers will be looking for homes with AI-driven tech, large windows and EV charging stations, among other amenities.
NEW YORK – Real estate professionals must know about the latest market trends, including the latest on innovative materials, systems and products to live more sustainably, as well as how to maximize every foot of living space.
Some of the top amenities homeowners in single or multifamily housing are seeking include pickleball courts, accessory dwellings, remodeled basements with saunas, home offices, outdoor spaces above and at ground level and AI-driven technology to make homes more energy efficient. In terms of sustainable materials and systems, homeowners are looking for convenience, lower energy consumption and decreased maintenance.
Builders and designers also might want to consider how to help Americans age in place, with walkable spaces where homeowners can wander safely and game rooms where they can socialize and engage with other residents.
While single family houses are shrinking, with one of the most popular styles being ranch houses, apartments are growing in size to enable renters to work from home. Kitchens remain a focal point for many homeowners, with homeowners seeking organized shelves, a walk-in pantry, lots of light through LEDs or large windows, hand-crafted features and an island. Additionally, homeowners want wiring for EV charging stations, solar-panel-ready homes and native plants in backyards.
Neutral colors are popular inside. Outside, homeowners are going with darker exteriors and lighter accents.
